More About This Recipe

  • Sloppy Joes have been a staple in American cuisine since the 1940s, though its roots are still contested today. Some say these “loose meat sandwiches” got their name from a cook in Sioux City, Iowa, while others argue that the recipe originated in Havana, Cuba and Key West, Florida. Wherever Sloppy Joes got its start, it’s no wonder it quickly became an American mainstay; the simple ingredients of ground beef, tomato-based sauce and hamburger buns make it a quick, filling meal that pleases both adults and kids. Sloppy Joes are so popular nowadays, that the filling has even inspired casserole recipes, crescent cups and even pizza.
