Decadent chocolate fudge is the ultimate indulgent treat. Creamy, velvety and perfect for special occasions, holiday dessert tables or anytime you need just a little taste of chocolate (which, let’s be real—isn’t that all the time?!). Even though this luscious dessert is made to savor, Pillsbury’s easy homemade chocolate fudge recipe couldn’t be simpler.

What is chocolate fudge?

While some consider fudge to be a type of chocolate, it’s really its own category of dessert altogether. It gained popularity in the U.S. during the 19th century and is now a staple in tourist shops and on holiday dessert trays. Though chocolate fudge is the most popular and widely known, fudge now comes in a variety of flavors like fruit, nut, caramel and peanut butter.

How do you make chocolate fudge?

A traditional chocolate fudge recipe requires boiling, simmering, stirring and frequently checking the temperature of your mixture with a candy thermometer. Luckily the Doughboy has made things oh-so easy. With just four ingredients, this homemade chocolate fudge recipe is made in the microwave—so you can have scrumptious chocolate fudge in no time flat.

More About This Recipe

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between chocolate and chocolate fudge?

Although fudge typically contains chocolate, fudge and chocolate are not the same thing. Chocolate has a hard, brittle texture and is produced combining cocoa solids, cocoa butter, sugar and other flavorings. Fudge is a mixture of sugar, dairy and other flavorings (like chocolate) that is cooked then cooled until smooth and semi-soft.

What happens if I overcook chocolate fudge?

Whether you’re making your fudge in the microwave, as with this easy chocolate fudge recipe, or on the stovetop, you want to be very careful not to overcook it. Heating your ingredients for too long, or at too high a temperature, will result in a hard, gritty texture instead of the creamy, velvety goodness you’re after.

Do you store chocolate fudge in the refrigerator?

For this and most homemade fudge recipes the answer is, yes! Homemade fudge, while using many of the same ingredients, differs in technique from the fudge you can buy at your favorite candy shoppe or store, but the results taste very much the same. Homemade fudge is stored in a refrigerator, in a covered container with waxed paper between the layers, for up to 3 weeks. Store bought fudge can be stored at room temperature or as directed on the package.
